Pickling

Pickling stainless steel removes impurities such as weld scale, oxide layers, discoloration, foreign rust, and metallic or organic contaminants pressed into the surface during machining. Only with clean, metallically pure surfaces can the passive layer that protects stainless steel from corrosion be formed. The pickling process creates a uniform, matte, whitish surface.
